Relax, Refresh, and Refocus

Retirement Income Planning, Calgary

Three years ago I had a "wake-up call" and decided to make some serious changes in my life. I won't get into all of the details right now, but suffice it to say that I came to the conclusion that if I wanted to be helpful to others it required me to be happy and healthy because I believe we are of the greatest service to others when we are at our best. To be at our best requires us to be healthy.

The pandemic has been a tough time for most people and now that we are coming out of it, we all need to refocus and get a new grasp on living healthy and being the best version of ourselves that we can be.

Nancy and I recently attended an online webinar on "What's Ailing Canadians?" We are working on some material from this webinar and will write about it more later, but we do want to share one insight with you that we learned from this webinar - "we have to look after ourselves better." It's called self-care.

What is self-care?

It's kind of like putting on your own oxygen mask before trying to assist others with their masks. Self-care isn't just bubble baths, chocolates, and other indulgences, but rather, it's about looking after ourselves mind, body, and spirit.

There are things you just need to have each week in order to function properly. Food, exercise, leisure, alone time, sleep, creative time, fun, etc.

We have been living in chaotic times and we need to recalibrate so that we can live a balanced life.

List of resources to help you this summer:

Mayo Clinic. “Stress relief from laughter? It’s no joke

Lisa Schaffer. ”Self-Care: Make Time For You

Canadian Mental Health Association. “Ending the Health Care Disparity in Canada”.

Schmitz, Norbert. “A Researcher’s Advice on Stress.” Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Global Self-Care Federation. “What is self-care?”

Elizabeth Scott. “When and how to take a mental health day”.

Jacqueline Getchius. “Self-Care: Why Is It So Important? Why Is It So Hard?”.

Enjoy your summer! Make time for the people and things that bring you joy and you will have no regrets.

I contacted Langford Financial to see if they could help me with specific questions on retirement & estate planning, efficient tax strategies, CPP and OAS benefits, and income drawdown strategies. I was very nervous at first about whether they would be a good fit for my needs, but my concerns were quickly put to rest and Willis and his team made me feel at ease right from the very first meeting.

They are very easy to work with, are very knowledgeable and resourceful, are able to break down complex matters into an easy-to-understand manner, and are always quick to respond to any questions. They reviewed my situation and were able to tailor a plan to fit my specific needs, to my complete satisfaction.

The plan included amongst other things, the best way to utilize efficient income tax strategies. helped me to understand the correct drawdown of assets which would result in larger savings, and provided guidance on insurance products and efficient estate planning.

As a result, I have a much clearer picture of my financial situation now and feel very confident and satisfied with the plan that they have proposed for me, going forward. What I appreciated the most about Willis and his team was that, in addition to their friendly, personable and professional approach, at no time was there ever any pressure to purchase any products.

I am very happy with the service I received from Willis and his team and would recommend Langford Financial to anyone looking for advice on their retirement planning needs. You will not be disappointed!
